Supporting Agricultural Transformation through Elderberry Production in Rural and Urban Landscapes [Phase 2]
Approved on:2023-11-03
Brief purpose of the study:The University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry is conducting a survey of elderberry growers. This survey is part of a research study that seeks to understand 1) elderberry growers’ farm and household characteristics, 2) how growers use land for agricultural and non-agricultural activities, and 3) production, processing, and marketing activities and challenges related to growers' elderberry enterprises. This project is funded by the USDA office of Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE).
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Take a 20-25 minute survey regarding their elderberry enterprise. Only one survey per household should be completed. The survey is anonymous and will take about 20-25 minutes to complete. Participation in this survey is voluntary, and participants may skip any question that they are not comfortable answering. Upon survey completion, we will compensate participants with a $25 Amazon eGift card. As of October 9, 2023, we are amending the application to seek approval for the survey phase of the project. Participants without internet access will be asked to fill out a paper survey which will take approximately 20-25 minutes. They will be asked to return the survey in a return envelop that will be mailed to researchers campus office.
Basic eligibility criteria:To participate in the survey one must be an elderberry grower that is 18 years of age and older, located within the United States, and grows and sells fresh or value-added American elderberry/flower (Sambucus nigra subsp. canadensis) products.
