Research studies seeking participants

Routine validation and reproducibility testing of laboratory assays and research techniques used for metabolism research
Approved on:2024-06-12
Brief purpose of the study:This is a research study. We invite you to participate in this research study because you are a woman or man and 18-75 years old. The purpose of this research study is to validate (check the accuracy of) laboratory assays, intravenous catheter insertion, and equipment or devices and their reproducibility, which is necessary to perform high quality research on chronic diseases (obesity, pre-diabetes and type-2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease, etc.), nutrition, and metabolism (the process by which a substance is handled in your body) at the University of Missouri. As technology changes and we start to use new testing methods, it is necessary to compare results from old tests, equipment and devices and new tests equipment or devices and the reproducibility of these measurements to make sure we are getting accurate results. Reproducibility means performing the same test more than once to see if the same results can be achieved each time.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Participation in this study may take place at the University of Missouri Clinical and Translational Science Unit and/or NextGen Center for Imaging and may be repeated within a few hours on the same day or on different days within a two to ten-week period. Any number or all of the tests listed below may be performed and you will be asked to initial those that you are asked to and agreed to perform. You do not have to agree to all the tests in order to participate in this study. Study tests may include: blood samples, intravenous catheter placement, endothelial cell collection, muscle or adipose (fat) tissue biopsies, oral glucose tolerance test, MRI/MRS (imaging), consuming study meals, body composition assessment by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), vascular function testing, and a screening interview.
Basic eligibility criteria:Men and women ages 18-75 years of age
