Research studies seeking participants

MU School of Medicine OneHealth Biorepository General Protocol
Approved on:2024-05-15
Brief purpose of the study:The purpose of the OneHealth Biorepository is to provide blood and tissue samples and associated health information for a broad variety of biomedical research projects at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. When tissues or fluids are removed from the body in a medical procedure, they are studied by a pathologist to make a diagnosis, or aid in developing a treatment plan for the patient. Tissue pieces left over after this examination are discarded in a careful way. If someone decides to participate in this study, left over tissue, rather than being discarded, will be transferred to the University of Missouri OneHealth Biorepository for use in current research studies, or to be stored for use in future research studies.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Subjects will be asked to provide a blood sample, and possibly a urine sample in addition to permission for collection of left over tissues from a medical procedure. When possible, the blood sample will be extra tubes taken when blood is already being drawn. Sometimes, participants may be asked to spend a few extra minutes during their standard of care visit to provide a blood or urine sample.
Basic eligibility criteria:a. Adult patients >18 years of age scheduled for procedures involving removal of tissue or fluids. All fluid/tissue types and source are acceptable. b. Tissues resected/excised must be determined excess and not needed for diagnosis by an MU Health Pathologist or Pathologist Assistant. c. English speaking subjects. d. Patients must have decisional capacity and be able to provide their written informed consent
