Multifunctional Porous Soft Materials-Enabled Six-Lead Wearable Heart Monitors with Enhanced User-Friendliness and Biocompatibility and Minimized Motion Artifacts
Approved on:2024-05-24
Brief purpose of the study:In this project, we plan to develop soft wearable heart monitors using our multifunctional porous elastomer materials as supporting substrates. The proposed device will consist of multifunctional porous SEBS (styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene) elastomers as supporting substrates, six-lead ECG recording electrodes for heart electrical activity tracking, and mobile data acquisition circuits for on-the-spot data processing and wireless data transfer. Vertical connections will be adopted to seamlessly link the ECG electrodes on the bottom to the electronic circuitry on the patch's top side.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:The participants will wear the device on the chest for at least one week for continuous ECG recording without changing routine activities. The lab visit is on days 1, 3, and 7; each visit lasts approximately 1 hour. The testing will take place in room 1203 at the NextGen building on the University of Missouri campus. The participants have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without facing any penalties. During the lab visit, we have divided the test into two stages. The first stage is sitting, including sitting still and simple speaking. The second stage involves walking and jogging at a speed of 2-4 miles/h, with the speed determined according to the participant’s physical condition. Each exercise lasts for 15 mins. Each participant will be provided with a new device. Additionally, the exercise duration can be adjusted in real-time based on the participant's physical condition.
Basic eligibility criteria:We plan to recruit healthy volunteers aged between 19 and 35 without any restrictions based on gender, race, or ethnicity. We will exclude children, pregnant women, prisoners, and patients diagnosed with heart disease symptoms. This excludes participants with a major illness history and who have recently experienced any cardiac-related diseases.
