DNA Testing, Racial Identity, and Transracial Adoption: An Exploration of Identity Gaps Experienced by Transracial Adoptees after Taking a Direct-to-Consumer DNA Test

Brief purpose of the study:1. Examine how, if at all, direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic test results impact the way transracial adoptees view their racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. 2. Uncover how, if at all, DTC genetic test results influence transracial adoptees’ family identity. 3. Explore what, if any, identity gaps transracial adoptees experience after they receive their DTC genetic test results.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Participants will be asked to complete one 45-60 minute interview via video conference or phone call as well as a short demographic survey.
Basic eligibility criteria:Participants should be transracial adoptees who are over the age of 18, live in the United States, have taken an at-home DNA test and received their results, and whose adoptive parents identify as White.
