The Perspective of American Muslim Breast Cancer Survivors: A Qualitative Study to Explore Experiences, Needs, and Expectations

Brief purpose of the study:Muslim breast cancer survivors are an understudied minority in the United States. Exploring their experience, needs, and expectations during survivorship is a necessary first step in developing culturally appropriate interventions. This project is the first step in a program of research aimed at addressing the complex and multifaceted nature of minority health and health disparities, intending to reduce this disparity by developing evidence-based guidelines and support for routine cancer screening, modifiable risk factors, and enhanced survivorship for Muslim breast cancer survivors.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Participants will fill out an 8-10 minutes demographic survey and participate in a 60 min private interview
Basic eligibility criteria:1. A Muslim woman living in the United States (US or non-US born). 2. 18 years or older. 3. Received a diagnosis of primary breast cancer within the last five years. 4. Received or currently receiving treatment. 5. Speaks English.
