Brief purpose of the study: | The purpose of this project is to examine what kinds of misinformation (especially STEM misinformation) that engineers face regarding their work and how that misinformation impacts their work. Additionally, this project seeks to understand how engineers think STEM education and communication should address misinformation. The project will collect survey and interview data from adult engineers. |
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do: | You are being asked to complete an online survey instrument. Your participation should last 10-15 minutes. The information you provide will be kept confidential and only the research team will have access. We will not ask for your name unless you choose to participate in a follow-up interview. In that case, we will ask for your name and email for contact purposes. Interviews will last 20-30 minutes. There is no incentive. |
Basic eligibility criteria: | Must be 18 years of age or older and are currently working as an engineer (regardless of discipline) in industry, consulting, or academia. Those who have worked as an engineer in the last 10 years and/or as an engineering educator will also be encouraged to participate. |
