Brief purpose of the study: | The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of grape consumption on immune and gut health. Further, we will explore the interrelationship of these outcomes with cardiometabolic, lifestyle, environmental, perceived stress, and cognitive and mental health outcomes. |
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do: | Study design:
• 1-hour screening visit at MU
• Four 3-hour and two 1-hour study visits at MU
• Study foods provided: whole freeze-dried grape powder or placebo powder to be mixed with water and consumed like a shake
Total compensation: $250
Individual study measurements:
• Anthropometrics: weight, adiposity, etc.
• Blood and stool collections
• Cardiovascular tests
• Diet and sleep records
• Appetite and palatability ratings
• Physical activity
• Attention and memory tests
• Mental well-being and perceived stress surveys

Basic eligibility criteria: | Inclusion criteria include:
• Age: 30-45 years
• Weight status: obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2)
• Willingness to consume study foods
• Consistent diet and activity patterns for 4 weeks
• Weight stable (≤5 kg change over last 3 months)
• Not currently consuming an extremely healthy diet
• Non-smoker >1 year or more
• No allergies to study foods
• Not pregnant or lactating
