Brief purpose of the study: | The purpose of this study is to understand how memory and language change in older adults who speak both Spanish and English. We are especially interested in how Alzheimer’s disease affects the way people speak and communicate in both languages. This information may help improve early detection of memory problems in bilingual individuals. |
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do: | Participants will be asked to complete short speaking and memory tasks in both Spanish and English using a secure smartphone app. These tasks include describing pictures, naming words, and answering questions about their language use and daily experiences. All activities can be done from home and at a time that is convenient. |
Basic eligibility criteria: | Speak both Spanish and English; Between 65 and 80 years old; Normal or corrected-to-normal vision; Normal or corrected-to-normal hearing; Have a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer’s disease; No history of neurological disorders or motor impairment; No history of language and/or reading impairment; Can use a smartphone or are willing to learn. |
