Needs Assessment of Bereaved Parents who Experienced Infant Loss
Approved on:2025-10-31
Brief purpose of the study:The overall objective of this study is to understand the lived experiences of parents or guardians who have experienced the loss of their infant. We will accomplish this through a mixed-methods study that includes a quantitative cross-sectional survey for parents/guardians who have experienced infant loss, followed by an optional semi-structured interview. This study will take place at the University of Missouri, be approved by the Institutional Review Board, and informed consent will be obtained from all participants.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Participants will be asked to complete a survey and then asked if they would also be interested in completing an interview. We aim to collect a minimum of 50 parent/guardian surveys (approximately 20-30 minutes) and will complete the follow-up qualitative interviews with parents/guardians (approximately 30-60 minutes) until data saturation is reached.
Basic eligibility criteria:To be included in this study, potential participants must be 18 years or older, a parent or guardian of a child who passed away between 20 weeks of gestation and 12 months old, at least one year post-loss, live in the United States and lived in the US during the time of loss, and be able/willing to respond in English.
