Insomnia, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance

Brief purpose of the study:To determine if Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Insomnia can improve MetS risk factors and insulin resistance in individuals with comorbid insomnia and IR.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:Subjects will be asked to undergo testing at baseline and following a 5 week intervention. Subjects will be randomized to cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia or a sleep hygiene group. Testing includes answering questionnaires, fasting blood draw, continuous glucose monitor and actigraphy to monitor sleep and physical activity
Basic eligibility criteria:Individuals will be included if they (a) are 18-50 y, (b) have a BMI 28-45 kg/m2 and (c) meet research diagnostic criteria for Insomnia Disorder. Criteria for insomnia include difficulty (>30 min) falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early on 3+ nights per week for 3+ months.
