Brief purpose of the study:To examine how visual cues in everyday environments can influence people’s attention, choices, and motivation around consuming beverages, including alcohol.
Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do:During a 1.5hr study visit (MU Campus, Melvin H. Marx Building), you will view colorful shapes on a screen, press buttons to make selections, and consume small sips of alcohol and water delivered to you through a mouthpiece that you will hold in your mouth. The visit will also involve filling out questionnaires about relevant information for the study (e.g., your use of alcohol and other drugs).
Basic eligibility criteria:You may be eligible if you are 21–50 years old, live in Boone or surrounding counties, and have consumed alcohol in the past month. You cannot participate if you currently have an alcohol use disorder, are receiving treatment for substance use, are pregnant, or have other health conditions that could make participation unsafe.
