| Brief purpose of the study: | The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usability, interaction quality, and learner experience associated with the SAGE AI Tutor system. Findings will be used to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for improvement prior to broader classroom deployment. |
| Brief summary of what participants will be asked to do: | Interested participants will receive a recruitment email with a link to complete informed consent, a brief pre-study survey, and session scheduling. The pre-study survey will collect demographic information, programming experience, prior use of AI learning tools, and familiarity with introductory programming concepts. Participants will complete a single study session lasting approximately 55–60 minutes. During the session, participants will use the SAGE AI Tutor while working through introductory programming tasks similar to those encountered in CS1050-level coursework. Participants will also complete questionnaires about their experience and participate in a brief debrief interview. With participant permission, screen activity, audio, and system interaction logs may be recorded for research purposes. |
| Basic eligibility criteria: | Participants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have enrolled in or completed an introductory programming course (e.g., CS1050 or equivalent) since Fall 2022
- Be able to read and communicate in English
- Be willing to participate in a 55–60 minute usability testing session |
